National Grid Education 'School Power': raising aspirations of young people
dbda has seen the launch of their latest online education programme 'School Power' which has been created and developed for National Grid.
The free online interactive website, aimed at 4-11 year olds, is part of National Grid's commitment to education and skills and has been developed to inspire the engineers and scientists of the future. It has been designed to support teachers and parents in stimulating children's interest in engineering and to encourage National Grid employees in volunteering their skills.
National Grid Education 'School Power' is part of a longer-term strategy to encourage more young people to choose engineering as a career. New research commissioned by National Grid and set out in the "Engineering Our Future" report reveals that engineering has become "an invisible industry" that doesn't appeal to young people.
"The research findings have highlighted the worrying shortage of skills in the engineering industry and our urgent need to address this," said Julian Buttery, Head of UK Community Relations, National Grid.
"We invited dbda to bring their Corporate Responsibility and education expertise to help us develop our key stage 1 & 2 education programme. Working with dbda has enabled us to take a dynamic approach to engaging young people and our employees, by bringing education alive in a unique way."
'School Power' is designed for use on PCs and interactive whiteboards in schools and includes vibrant presentations, fun experiments and interactive story books to stimulate and engage pupils in the exciting themes of Energy, Forces and Materials. All resources are free to access and are fully linked to the UK curricula.
