Crisis enlists the support of dbda

The national charity for single homeless people, Crisis commissioned dbda to create a range of lesson plans linked to Robert Swindells thought-provoking book Stone Cold, a National Curriculum text for Key Stage 3.

The award-winning book focusses on 14-year old Link. Not wanted in the family home, Link sets off for London, hoping to find a job and make his own way. But after a few weeks surviving on a £150 budget, Link runs out of options and finds himself on the streets with no home, no family and no money.

It’s an all too familiar story of how many people end up homeless and have to turn to Crisis for help.

The four specially created lesson plans aim to help teachers and their students learn more about Link and his friends and find out more about homelessness. They cover topics including; what causes someone to be homeless, how homeless people survive on the streets and what Crisis does to support homeless people.

The lesson plans also link to a new Crisis campaign, the Pupils’ Challenge, which features tasks where pupils can demonstrate persuasive thinking and writing for a target audience and complete their own fundraising challenge by working together and solving problems.

The lesson plans are free to download from http://www.crisis.org.uk
