dbda presents to global FIA road safety scholars

dbda were delighted to be involved with the FIA Road Safety Scholarship Programme this year. Bill Smith, Business Development Director at dbda was invited to carry out a presentation on road safety education to eleven scholars hailing from around the world from Russia to Uruguay and Lesotho to Uzbekistan. The presentation covered all aspects of road user education from early years through to young drivers and how it could be delivered in the developing world.

The Scholarship Programme brought talented young professionals from around the globe for a two-week intensive course on road safety policy and promotion.

The key objectives of the Scholarship are to:

  • recruit outstanding individuals who will make a future impact on road safety in their countries;
  • develop their understanding of the management of road safety and equip them with strategies for promoting safer roads, safer vehicles and safer road user behaviour;
  • build an international network of young professionals committed to road safety;
  • target individuals currently working to make roads safe in their countries.

The course is based primarily in London, with visits to specialist facilities, presentation from ‘experts’ in the safety arena and local road safety authorities.

At the end of the exhaustive training programme the scholars were presented with their diplomas at a dinner in the Atlee Room in the House of Lords hosted by Lord Dubs of Battersea and in the presence of Prince Michael of Kent.
