New Employability Skills programme for Nationwide Education
With the on-going debate on the future of Careers Advice in schools never off the news agenda and a recent CBI survey reporting that 70% of employers want action to improve the employability skills among young people, Nationwide Education (produced by dbda ltd) have developed a comprehensive new Employability Skills programme for ages 4 to 16.
The online programme aims to support and help young people bridge the gap between education and employment and provide students with an understanding and insight of both employability skills (i.e. skills they would need to do any job), as well as ‘career information’ focused on working in a financial corporate such as Nationwide Building Society.
It would seem it has come at the right time! Commenting on the recent CBI report, their Director-General John Cridland said: “Employability skills are crucial to making the smooth transition from education to the workplace, but companies are finding that school leavers lack many of these essential competencies. The best way to overcome this is to embed the teaching of these skills into curriculum and course structures.” The research also showed that employability skills are the single most important consideration for 82% of businesses when recruiting graduates, ahead of a degree subject (68%) and relevant work experience (67%).
Nationwide Education’s new Employability Skills programme aims to improve youngsters’ knowledge and aspirations through:
- Widening their appreciation of the world of work
- Explaining different careers available and routes to those careers
- Outlining different department/functions within organisations
- Presenting skills and aptitudes important for specific roles
- Career Route Maps and video testimonials of various people within Nationwide.
